We welcome you to come to meet the artist.
Erin Scott is an interdisciplinary poet and artist who lives on the unceded territory of the syilx/Okanagan Peoples (Kelowna, BC, Canada). Erin has three published books of writing, has performed on stages across Canada and the USA, and has exhibited at the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art and the Lake Country Art Gallery. In 2025, with her partner Cole Mash, Erin was the City of Kelowna artist-in-residence, where she presented an audio-visual walk and community engaged installation focused on climate crisis and ecological grief in the Okanagan.
In June 2025, Erin participated in an artist residency at Grinneabhat and An Lanntair. This exhibition is a result of that time spent in community and on the land on Lewis.
Belonging takes the Lewisian folk story “The Tooth of the Fairy Dog” (Stephen, 2014) and reimagines it in a new poetic and digital context. Guided by Stò:lō scholar Jo-Ann Archibald Q’um Q’um Xiiem’s 2008 book Indigenous Storywork: Educating the Heart, Mind, Body and Spirit, the exhibition seeks to build bridges between the Gaelic world of folk story and the Indigenous knowledges of Canada. As a second-generation Canadian, with family spread out across Lewis and Glasgow, Erin Scott opens the multiple layers of belonging as they connect to land, language, and stories through poetry, audio-video, and archival story.
Verse Poetry Workshop
Join visiting poet Erin Scott for a workshop that dives into free verse poetry. Free verse is an open form of poetry that resists the structures of formal poetry such as rhyme, meter, and syllabics. Instead, it prioritizes the natural cadence of every day speech, creating vibrant poems for both the page and stage. In this workshop, Erin will present different examples of free verse poetry and guide the group in writing exercises. With time for reading the poetry aloud, participants will learn to pay attention to line breaks, metaphor, diction, and sound in order to foster their innate poetic voice. No past writing experience needed! Please bring a pen and paper and an eagerness to create.
Donations welcome
Erin will also be presenting at the Artists Gathering at An Lanntair on Friday 20th February at 6pm: https://lanntair.com/events/event/artist-gathering-11/
